Strong Feet, Happy Movement

Strong Feet, Happy Movement

Meet Daryl, Our Musculoskeletal Podiatrist in Hereford

If you’ve ever struggled with sore heels, tight calves, or feet that just don’t feel quite right, you’re not alone.
Foot and lower limb issues are incredibly common - and they can have a knock-on effect all the way up the body, from your knees and hips to your back.

That’s where Daryl, our musculoskeletal podiatrist here in Hereford, comes in.

With over twenty years of experience working with foot and lower limb conditions, Daryl helps people move with less pain and more confidence. Whether it’s plantar heel pain, big toe stiffness, neuromas, Achilles irritation, or flat feet, he’s seen it all - and knows how to get to the root of the problem.

A Personal Approach to Foot and Lower Limb Care

What makes Daryl stand out is his calm, methodical approach.
He doesn’t just treat the pain - he looks for the why behind it.

Using detailed movement and his expert gait analysis, Daryl studies how you walk, run, and stand to uncover the subtle imbalances that can lead to discomfort or injury. From there, he’ll build a treatment plan that’s tailored to you - whether that includes specific exercises, footwear advice, or custom orthotics to support your recovery.

Outside the clinic, you’ll often find Daryl cycling around Herefordshire’s hills, hiking, or spending time with his family. He’s passionate about helping people stay active in the ways they love most - pain-free and confident on their feet.

Why Strong Feet Matter

Your feet are your foundation.
They’re the first to hit the ground with every step, jump, or climb - sending signals up through your ankles, knees, hips, and spine.
When something’s off at the base, it can cause pain and compensation higher up the chain.

A few quick self-checks:

  • Do your arches collapse when you squat?

  • Do your big toes feel stiff?

  • Do your feet point out when you walk?

If any of those sound familiar, it could be a sign that your feet need a little more support or strength - something Daryl can assess and help you improve.

Daryl’s 10-Minute Foot & Ankle Reset

These simple exercises can help you reconnect with your feet, build strength, and improve mobility.
Try them three or four times per week - ideally barefoot.

  1. Ankle circles – 10 each way per side, slow and controlled

  2. Short foot drill – 3 × 10 reps, lift the arch without curling your toes

  3. Big toe stretch – 2 × 30 seconds each side, gentle pressure only

  4. Calf raises – 2 × 12 with straight knees, then 2 × 12 with bent knees

  5. Tibialis raises (at a wall) – 2 × 12, heels down, lift toes toward shins

  6. Single-leg balance – 2 × 30 seconds per side, soft knee, steady gaze

Finish with an easy walk around the room - feel your heel, midfoot, and big toe connect with the floor. Small steps that make a big difference.
